IBPS PO Mains 2018: Last Minute Tips |

Last Minute Tips For IBPS PO Mains

The IBPS PO mains exam 2018 is scheduled to be held on November 18 and with just a  One days left, candidates need to give the best of their abilities in the upcoming exam. Candidates aspiring to be selected as probationary officers in the Nationalised banks need to work with a focused strategy to sail through the exam. IBPS PO Mains will not be an easy task but if one works with a proper strategy then he /she can fulfill his/her dream of becoming a Probationary Officer.

The first and foremost thing is that you should believe in yourself that you can do it. Half the work is done here. Next, the countdown has started and now you don’t have a single second to waste. Your task is to give your best in this stipulated time and keep everything else aside.

In these few days, don’t keep on practicing only the subject in which you are weak at. Your aim is to score well so focus on your strengths so that you do not miss anything in the subject in which you have good command. Also, practice your weak subjects so that you do not miss in the sectional cutoffs.

Now here are some important tips and tricks for preparation and revision, which one must pay attention to before appearing for IBPS PO Mains Exam.

Know the Exam Pattern and Plan a Strategy: At this point in time, many of you must be knowing the pattern for the exam. It is very important to know the exam pattern and the sectional timing of each section. You have to plan a strategy to attempt a certain number of questions in the stipulated amount of time. The exam might be tough or moderate and the attempts may vary accordingly. But you should go into the exam with your own strategy to attempt the number of questions in the exams as per your own strengths and weaknesses.

English Language: English section is considered a tough section when we talk about the IBPS Exams. You must attempt those questions in which you are sure about and making random guesses will not help you in this section. Avoid guessing answers and attempt questions with utmost accuracy.

Reasoning and Computer Aptitude: Reasoning is an onerous section in this exam. You must attempt the questions and puzzles carefully. The questions will be time taking but if you are able to crack the puzzles correctly then you will be able to attempt the questions with 100% accuracy. You have to be careful with your accuracy in this exam.

Data Analysis & Interpretation: This section might be tough, very tough or moderate. The only thing you must remember is that do not panic and attempt as many questions possible with utmost accuracy. Do not make guesses. Try to be accurate.

General Awareness/ Banking Awareness/Static Awareness: This section plays a very crucial role in your selection. If you have studied this portion properly then you can easily attempt a good number of questions to clear the cutoff. You must prepare the current affairs of at least 5-6 months thoroughly. You cannot master current affairs in a single day. You have to keep revising them regularly.

Do Not Panic: You must be calm, composed and confident before you appear for the exam. Even if the exam paper turns out to be very difficult, you must not panic and attempt as many questions as you are able to attempt with good accuracy.
Leave no stone unturned and give your best. Give your best in these few days and relax one day before the Exam. You can read current affairs one day before the exam but try not to stress yourself. Last but not least, believe in yourself and stay confident.

Gerunds and Infinitives Uses

Gerunds and Infinitives Uses

Gerunds and Infinitives Uses

What are Gerunds.?

A gerund is a verb in its ing (present participle) form that functions as a noun that names an activity rather than a person or thing. Any action verb can be made into a gerund.
Spelling Tip
Verbing (Present Participle)Add ing to most verbs. Ex. play > playing, cry > crying, bark > barking

  • For verbs that end in e, remove the e and add ing. Ex: slide > sliding, ride > riding
For verbs that end in ie, change the ie to y and add ing. Ex: die > dying, tie > tying
For a verb whose last syllable is written with a consonant-vowel-consonant and is stressed, double the last letter before adding ing. Ex: beg > begging, begin > beginning. However: enter > entering (the last syllable is not stressed)

A gerund is an -ing verb form used as a noun.

Like a verb, a gerund can take objects and be modified by adverbs and adverbial phrases, but its function in a sentence is to serve as a noun–a noun that ends in -ing.
What do nouns do? Nouns are used as the following parts of a sentence:
1. Subject
2. Direct Object
3. Subject Complement
4. An object of a Preposition
Anything a noun can do, a gerund can do–because a gerund is a noun. A gerund is a noun that ends in -ing. Gerunds may be used alone or as part of a phrase.

What are Infinitives?

An infinitive is a verb form that acts as other parts of speech in a sentence. It is formed with to + base form of the verb.
Ex: to buy, to work.
An infinitive is a phrase, consisting of the word to and the basic form of a verb, that functions as a noun, an adjective, or an adverb.

Here’s a discussion of the five types of infinitives.

1. Subject
An infinitive can constitute the subject of a sentence. For example, in “To go, even after all that trouble, didn’t seem worthwhile anymore,” “to go” is the action that drives the sentence.

2. Direct Object
In the sentence “We all want to see,” “to see” is the direct object, the noun (or noun substitute) that receives the action of the verb. “To see” refers to a thing being done — or, in this case, desired to be done: the act of seeing.

3. Subject Complement
In “My goal is to write,” “to write” is the subject complement. A subject complement looks just like a direct object, but the difference is in the type of verb preceding it. The verb in the previous example, want, is a transitive verb. (Transitive verbs have two defining characteristics: They precede a direct object, and they express an action.)
In “My goal is to write,” the verb is a popular or linking, verb — one that links a subject to a word or phrase that complements it. (In this sentence, “to write” is the goal, so it’s the complement of a goal. Note that in the previous example, “to see” is what those referred to as we want, but it’s not the complement of we.)

4. Adjective
In “She didn’t have permission to go,” “to go” modifies permission — it describes what type of permission is being discussed — so the phrase serves as an adjective.

5. Adverb
In “He took the psychology class to try to understand human behavior,” “to understand (human behavior)” explains why the taking of the class occurred, so it’s an adverb modifying the verb took.
