In quantitative aptitude, mixture and alligation are both methods used to solve problems involving the mixing of different substances.
A mixture problem involves mixing two or more substances together and determining certain properties of the resulting mixture, such as its price, weight, or concentration. These problems typically involve ratios and proportions and may require the use of algebraic equations to solve.
Alligation is a method used to solve mixture problems where the ratio of two ingredients is given. It states that, when two or more ingredients are mixed in a certain ratio and sold at a certain price, the ratio of the cost of the ingredients to the selling price is the same as the ratio of the quantity of ingredients. It is a method of finding the average of two or more given ratios.
For example, if you have two types of grain, one costing Rs 4 per kg and the other costing Rs 5 per kg, and you want to create a mixture of the two grains that costs 4.50 Rs per kg, you can use the method of alligation to determine the ratio of the two grains that you need to use to achieve this cost.
In summary, mixture problems can be solved by using ratios and proportions, while alligation is a specific method used to solve mixture problems where the ratio of two ingredients is given, it’s a method of finding the average of two or more given ratios.

Mixture and Alligation Question asked in Previous Year Exam (Sample Question)
Q.1 A jar had 330-liter mixture of Milk and water in the respective ratio of 2 : 1.60 liters of this mixture is taken out and ‘x’ liter each of milk and water is added to the jar (remaining mixture). The respective ratio between milk and water was 8 :5 respectively. What was the total quantity of both milk and water added to the jar?
a) 90 liter
b) 170 liter
c) 160 liter
d) 120 liter
Answer: d
Solution:
Given
Total mixture = 330 liter
Ratio of milk and water = 2 : 1
Calculation
Mixture left in jar after 60 liters taken out = 330 – 60 = 270 liters
Milk = (2/3) × 270 = 180 liter
Water = (1/3) × 270 = 90 liter
Now according to question
(180 + x)/(90 + x) = 8/5
⇒900 + 5x = 720 + 8x
⇒3x = 180
⇒x = 60
∴Quantity that was added = 2 × 60 = 120 liter
Q2. A cistern contains 100 liters of water. 10 liters of water is taken out of it and replaced by the same quantity of soda. This process is repeated one more time. After that 20 liters of the solution is replaced by the same quantity of whiskey. Find the proportion of soda, water, and whiskey in the final mixture?
a) 19 : 71 : 25
b) 38 : 72 : 50
c) 19 : 81 : 25
d) 29 : 71 : 25
Answer: c
Solution:
Given
A cistern contains 100 liters of water.
Calculation
Initially
Water = 100 lit
After 1st replacement
Water : Soda = 90 : 10 = 9 : 1
After 2nd replacement
Water = 90 – (10 × 9/10) = 81 lit
Soda = 10 – (10 × 1/10) + 10 = 19 lit
After 3rd replacement
Water = 81 – (20 × 81/100) = 64.8 lit
Soda = 19 – (20 × 19/100) = 15.2 lit
Whiskey = 20 lit
∴Required ratio = 15.2 : 64.8 : 20
⇒19 : 81 : 25
Q.3) Ratio of Milk and water in Vessel A is 7:4 and same mixture in the ratio of 5:3, 22 liters mixture from vessel A taken out and poured in vessel B new ratio of milk to water is 27:16. If new quantity of mixture in vessel B is equal to initial quantity of mixture in vessel A, then find quantity of Milk after 8 liters of mixture has been taken out from Vessel A?
A) 200/29 liters B) 546 / 11 liters C) 120/13 liters D) 220/19 liters Answer: b
Let Ratio of Milk and water in Vessel A is 7x and 4y
Let ratio of milk and water in vessel B is 5y and 3y
Now according to question.
(5y + 22 * 7 / 11) / (3y + 22 * 4 / 11) = 27 / 16
(5y + 14 )/ (3y + 8) = 27 / 16
80y + 224 = 81y + 216
Y = 8
New quantity of mixture in vessel B
= > (8 * 5 + 14) + (8 * 3 + 8)
= > 54 + 32
= > 86
Therefore initial quantity of vessel A = 86 liters
Quantity of milk remaining in Vessel A
86 * 7 / 11 – 8 * 7 / 11
= > 546 / 11 litres

The syllabus for this section is vast and varied as the topic of the passage could be any topic of interest. The main idea is to focus on the structure of the answer and not the arguments presented. Remember, it is not a test of your opinion but your writing style, so it is safer to stick to a neutral opinion.
· Argument essay
In this section, you have to analyse the reasoning and then present your argument. Remember, you will be judged on how well reasoned you find a given argument. Also, check whether the argument is logically sound or not and make sure not to make any baseless assumptions. Give importance to syntax and grammar to support or stand against the critique presented in the question.
· Issue essay
In this section, you have to write an essay on the issue given to you. The candidate has to give an opinion in around 600 words. The opinion can be supportive of the given statement or candidates can give their own opinion. How To Prepare For GMAT Critical Reasoning?
The GMAT critical reasoning questions are designed to be analytical and perplexing, with the use of “Jargon” encouraged and statements that appear to be in sync with one another rather than being useful to the learner. A candidate should spend less time reading and more time figuring out how to interpret controversial theories to locate evidentiary cues that will help them answer the issue.
You must decipher the meaning of the question. This will assist you in comprehending the information offered by the supposed data.
Identify the sentence’s dominant and weak components, then exercise the information gathering strategy with regard to the question’s contextual meaning.
Don’t simply read, comprehend, summarise, and build a developed context with connected comments. It’s all about taking risks and successfully putting your ability to extract the correct meaning from complex written information to the test.
How To Prepare For GMAT Sentence Correction?
Take your time to read the entire statement.
Review the sentence’s grammatical, punctuation, and spelling construction.
Pay attention to the parts of the phrase that aren’t underlined since they may give clues to the correct answer.
Disruptions and extensive answer options should be avoided. Remember that distortions exist to disrupt your performance’s flow.
Examine the modifiers and where they appear in the question. The modifiers in the question are frequently mixed in order to confuse the candidate. Choose the response choice that most logically connects all of the events in the phrase and eliminates repetition from the question. Look for any incorrect synonyms in the sentence that aren’t consistent with the general meaning of the sentence. Determine the proper relationship between multiple turns of phrase.
How To Prepare For The IR Section Of GMAT?
Familiarize yourself with set-based reasoning issues, which are usually about maxima and minima values.
Practice networking and logical connectives questions.
Enhance the concepts of Vedic Maths to their full potential. Shear calculations make up the majority of Integrated Reasoning.
Do not waste your time rushing from one set to the next. Pick an easy set to start with and solve it using a concept test. As you regain familiarity, progress up to more challenging questions to test your understanding.
Read all of the possible answers carefully and use the “process of elimination approach” to ensure that your solution is correct from beginning to conclusion.
Develop your analytical skills to identify differences among the subquestions.

History Of Computer –
The history of computers can be traced back to ancient times, with early devices such as the abacus being used to perform simple mathematical calculations. However, the first electronic computer, called the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC), was built during World War II in the United States, and was used for military calculations.
In the decades that followed, computers continued to evolve and become more powerful. The invention of the transistor in 1947 by Bell Labs revolutionized computer technology, allowing for the development of smaller, faster, and more efficient computers. The development of the integrated circuit in the late 1950s and early 1960s further improved computer technology, and led to the creation of the first minicomputers and microcomputers.
During the 1970s and 1980s, personal computers (PCs) became more widely available, and their popularity grew rapidly. The introduction of the IBM PC in 1981 was a significant milestone in the history of computers, as it established the standard for personal computers and helped to make them more affordable and accessible to a wider audience.
In the 1990s, the Internet emerged as a major force in the world of computers, and by the early 2000s, the Internet had become a fundamental part of daily life for many people. With the advent of smartphones and mobile devices, computers became even more ubiquitous, and today, computers and computer technology are an essential part of modern society, playing a vital role in business, education, and entertainment.
Charles Babbage (1791-1871) was an English mathematician, inventor, and mechanical engineer who is best known for his concept of the “analytical engine,” which is considered to be the prototype of the modern computer. Babbage began work on the analytical engine in the 1820s, but was never able to complete the project due to funding and technical difficulties.
Generations Of Computers –
The history of computers is often divided into generations, based on the technology used in the computers of that time. The following are the five main generations of computers:
First Generation (1940-1956): The first generation of computers used vacuum tubes as the main electronic component. These computers were large and expensive and were used primarily for scientific and military purposes. Examples of first-generation computers include the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC) and the UNIVAC.
Second Generation (1956-1963): The second generation of computers used transistors instead of vacuum tubes. This made the computers smaller, faster, and more reliable, and they could be used in a wider range of applications. Examples of second-generation computers include the IBM 1401 and the IBM 1620.
Third Generation (1964-1971): The third generation of computers used integrated circuits (ICs) instead of transistors. This made the computers even smaller, faster, and more reliable, and they could be used in a wider range of applications. Examples of third-generation computers include the IBM System/360 and the DEC PDP-8.
Fourth Generation (1971-1981): The fourth generation of computers used microprocessors, which are integrated circuits that contain a CPU on a single chip. This made the computers even smaller, faster, and more reliable, and they could be used in a wider range of applications. Examples of fourth-generation computers include the Altair 8800 and the Apple II.
Fifth Generation (1981-Present): The fifth generation of computers uses microprocessors, artificial intelligence and parallel processing. They are more intelligent and more powerful than ever before, and they can be used in a wide range of applications, including personal computers, supercomputers, and embedded systems. Examples of fifth-generation computers include IBM’s Watson, Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa.
Types Of Computers –
Personal computers (PCs): Personal computers are designed for use by an individual and are typically used for tasks such as word processing, internet browsing, and gaming. They come in a variety of form factors, including desktop computers and laptops.
Servers: Servers are computers that are designed to provide services to other computers, such as hosting websites or managing databases. They are typically more powerful than personal computers and are optimized for multitasking and data storage.
Mainframes: Mainframes are large, powerful computers that are used for tasks that require a high degree of reliability, such as managing large amounts of data or running business-critical applications. They are typically used by large organizations, such as banks and government agencies.
Supercomputers: Supercomputers are the most powerful computers available, and they are used for tasks that require a high degree of computational power, such as scientific research, weather forecasting, and cryptography.
Embedded systems: Embedded systems are small, specialized computers that are built into other devices, such as cars, cell phones, and appliances. They are used to control the functions of the device and may include specialized features such as sensors and actuators.
Gaming Computers: Gaming computers are designed for high-performance gaming and are typically equipped with powerful processors, graphics cards, and large amounts of memory. They are optimized for running the latest games and are designed to provide a smooth and immersive gaming experience.
Mobile devices: Mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones are also considered as computers, they are designed to be portable and can be used for a variety of tasks, such as email, internet browsing, and social media.
Database Management Systems (DBMS) –
A Database Management System ( DBMS) is software designed to store, retrieve, define, and manage data in a database.
Structure Of DBMS –
A database system is a divide into modules that deal with each of the responsibilities of the overall system. The functional components of a database system can be broadly divided into the storage manager and the query processor components.
Types Of DBMS –
There are different types of Centralised databases. Distributed database. Personal database. End-user database. Commercial database. NoSQL database. Operational database. Relational database.
Types Of Keys –
The keys on your keyboard can be divided into several groups – Typing (alphanumeric) keys, Control keys, Function keys, Navigation keys, and Numeric keypad.
SQL (Structured Query Language) –
SQL is a standard language for accessing and manipulating databases.
Data Definition Language (DDL) –
A data definition language (DDL) is a computer language used to generate and modify the structure of database objects in a database. These database objects include views, schemas, tables, indexes, etc
Normalization And Anomalies –
Normalization is a process of arranging the data in the database to avoid data redundancy, insertion anomaly, update anomaly & deletion anomaly.
Types Of Data Models –
